Neo Shojo Surrealism

NEO SHOJO SURREALISM

Giving a name to my primary art style…

I wish I could say that I create great cultural works of art; paintings and sculptures that reflect my heritage and provoke profound discussions. But sadly, I don’t. I draw manga looking illustrations of faery girls with mechanical pencils. on paper at that.

People always ask me, is your art influenced by japanese anime? and why do you draw faeries?

and before I would say no, I’m not inspired by anime and I couldn’t give a clear answer on why a boy would drawing Faeries at my age. But I have clarity now to say it. I’m definitely influenced by Asian visual artist primarily Japanese manga creators of the 1990’s. Manga really gave me a tremendous sense of purpose for drawing. And what I could create with just pencil and “paper.

The modern Art style that I admire the most was pop surrealism I saw a lot of in the early 2000’s. it showed me it was okay to draw cartoony and pop culture references in a professional art gallery.

some of my favorite artist in no particular order are:

Ozabu, Audrey Kawasaki, Amy Sol, Aya Takano and Kaori Yuki, Shirou Masamune, Takashi Murakami, Katsuhiro Otomo, Shoei Otomo, Tetsuya Nomura, and Yukito Kishiro, Inoue and many others. The only non-Asian artist whose work inspired to draw are Brain Froud, Moebius and Alphonse Mucha.

“Neo-Shojo Surrealism” really captures my aesthetics—combining that soft, dreamlike beauty of shojo manga with surrealism and fantasy elements. i think my favorite artists all reflect that balance of delicate and intricate design with bold, imaginative world-building

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Drawing my own cool faery girls is a passion. it’s a synthesis of me observing the world through my influences— a deep appreciation for femininity, not just in a sexual way but in a mystical, ethereal sense. It’s like trying to capture a girl’s presence as an almost divine, magical being unaware of her own power, with a manga and surrealist twist.

At the end of the day, people should draw what they like most, what’s most pleasurable to create. for me I found out i drawing cool faery girls is the most fun and easiest thing to draw so I’ll stick with it until i get bored of it.
